Installing skins on DotNetNuke 4

Today is the day I have decided to start writing more on my blogs as I’ve been busy putting content on sites, answering posts, trying to run a business, learn about different technologies…. and guys, it’s incredibly time consuming. I’m sure you all know that if you run your own business.

Now, I’m not sure if everyone is aware that I have this facebook page – well I do.. it’s my Facebook Fans page and it’s been quite popular, with free skins galore, nice ones too, and trying to encourage newcomers to dnn and I think it’s helped somewhat.

But what I didn’t really think of in enough detail was the understanding for people to install skins, especially if you are coming from another form of technology (goodness is there anything apart from dotnetnuke?) So I thought that I’d create this quick vide on how to install skins on dnn and whip through the skin installation procedure for dnn 4 & 5.

Well, that didn’t last long.  I realised that it’s so easy to assume or think that it’s intuitive and logical, but having been playing around with some other technologies, I am completely of the opinion that nothing is straightfoward, nothing, nada, zip.

What really got me stumped was the installation process for dnn 5 and so I thought I’d create a couple of videos – one for dnn 4, which still seems to be the flavour of the month. I did this because I covered the where and how it all ties in together, and when you move to dnn 5, things have changed.

So, if you’re new to dnn, have a skin for dotnetnuke 4 you may want to install on dotnetnuke 5, or simply upgrading to dnn 5 at some time and want some refreshers, then you’ll get a better idea of the process.

This video willl also assist users who have been given the role of managing their website but not sure of how and where the files are.

This is the first vide in a series of ‘how to install a skin’ videos that we have created and have online on http://www.dnnskins.com/news.aspx – click the ‘videos’ to view them if you want to read the overview of the video as well.

All the sample skins used here are available for download at http://www.dnnskins.com
